Choosing an Assisted Living Facility Based on Staff

When choosing between the many assisted living facilties that are available, it is important to consider not only the environment of the facility, but the staff working in the facility – as the interaction between the staff and the residents of the facility is going to be present on a daily basis.

Here are some aspects that should be considered when it comes time to find assisted living facilities in Idaho:

Do the members of the staff team take the time to answer questions of the residents? Are they able to answer the questions in a non-rushed and patient way, ensuring that the resident fully understands the answer that is being presented?

Does the staff appear happy to be at their job? It is important that the staff be warm to the clients that are going to potentially become a resident of the assisted living facility, but also to the family members of those visiting their loved ones at the facilities. Learning the names of the residents and referring to the residents by name can be an indication that the staff members have taken the time to get to know and care for the residents.

Taking the time to ask the staff members about how emergencies are handled at the assisted living facility and if possible speaking with residents and their families about how these situations are handled can be an effective way to determine whether the assisted living facility is equipped with staff members that are able to get a handle on the situation.

Since the staff are responsible for the activities taking place throughout the facility and responsible for the care that is provided to the staff on a daily basis it is important to make the decision based on the interactions with the staff members. Choosing a medium sized facility can allow the resident to develop a personal relationship with the staff members working at the facility, helping to enrich the experience that comes with deciding to make the transition into an assisted living facility.
